Rutland is at a crossroads.
We must not only revitalize and rebuild the City and the downtown
core, but we must revitalize and rebuild City administration and
change the direction of City government as well. Our goals must
be to increase the tax base and reduce the tax burden. This is precisely
why I have decided to seek election to the office of Rutland City
Mayor in the upcoming March election.
During the past two years I have proven that I possess the courage
to tackle issues head-on and will deal with matters proactively,
rather than react to a crisis after the fact. I have displayed a
keen instinct to identify problems and demonstrated the ability
to offer real solutions to those problems. I want to bring these
talents to the Mayor’s office to serve Rutland City and its
citizens.
The next Mayor must have both a well-developed business sense and
a strong background in understanding what it takes to run an organization
with an annual budget of over 20 million dollars. As a third generation
Rutland businessman I will bring those proven skills to the job
and will not suffer the pains of inexperience. Rutland’s financial
crisis has become a true burden on its taxpayers and the City needs
someone who can hit the ground running to deal with our fiscal dilemma,
someone who will not watch the problem grow as their learning curve
plays catch-up.
As Mayor, I will act not only as the City’s Chief Executive
Officer, but I will also take the leading role in pursuing the City’s
economic development efforts. My goal is to meet regularly with
the region’s business leaders to ensure that they are well
served and likewise I will develop a strategy to revitalize the
downtown to provide a vibrant place where entrepreneurs will want
to locate and offer quality jobs to stem the tide of migration from
Rutland.
The task before us is not an easy one and tough decisions will need
to be made in order to ease our tax burden and to increase the tax
base. The City needs a bold, decisive and proven leader in the Mayor’s
office to guide Rutland through this challenging period. I am that
leader and I’m hoping for your support as I bring my vision
of a better Rutland to all its citizens.
